Installation Guide

Delaco Outdoor Wall Panels are designed for a secure, long lasting finish in exterior environments. For best results, panels should be installed with screws into battens or joists, allowing for natural expansion and contraction with temperature changes. Please refer to our full Installation Guide for more details.

What You Will Need

Pencil

Drill/driver

Hammer

Tape measure

Spirit level

Hand saw or circular saw (sharp)

Screws (use 8G 20mm, pan head)

Safety glasses

Mask

Metal battens or aluminium joists (optional)

Installation With Screws

Outdoor panels should be fixed by screwing into battens or joists for a strong and stable install.

Install battens or joists horizontally, spaced approximately 600mm apart.

Use 8G 20mm pan head screws to secure panels into the battens or joists.

Making Your Cuts

Measure your cut location carefully, then double check measurements to avoid wasting a panel.

Mark a straight line using a square tool or straight edge and a pencil.

Cut the panel horizontally with a circular saw, using a slow, steady pace.

Installing Into Concrete or Brick

For concrete or brick walls, we recommend using aluminium battens or joists to allow for minor contraction and expansion with temperature changes.

Install battens or joists horizontally, spaced approximately 600mm apart.

Drill through the batten or joist into the wall, then fix using wall plugs and screws.

Finishing Accessories

  • Edge Banding (Aluminium), for a clean side finish. Size (mm): 2900 x 40 x 54
  • Corner Banding, for neat external corners where two panels meet. Size (mm): 2900 x 63 x 63
  • Cover Panel, to neatly finish the top and or bottom of your project. Size (mm): 2900 x 50 x 50

Installation Steps

Step 1: Prepare your tools and carefully measure your installation area.

Step 2: Install aluminium joists (or battens) horizontally at 600mm apart.

Step 3: Fix the Edge Banding trim into the batten or joist with screws, this creates the starting point for your first panel.

Step 4: Install the first panel by sliding it into the corner trim, then screw into the batten to secure.

Step 5: Continue fixing each panel by screwing into the battens or joists, leave a 10mm gap from the floor surface so water can escape and panels can breathe.

Step 6: For an internal corner, cut the final panel to size for a flush corner fit, if finishing a single wall, cap the edge with another corner trim.

Step 7: For an external corner, fix the Corner Banding to the battens or joists with screws.

Step 8: Continue installing from the corner across the wall, for an internal corner, cut the final piece to size and slide into place.

Step 9: If desired, install a capping trim to the top of the panels, this is optional and not essential.

Installation Tips

You can use either aluminium joists or wooden joists to support your panels, depending on your project needs. Aluminium joists offer enhanced stability and durability. Please note, Delaco Panels does not sell aluminium joists, they can be purchased from local hardware and building supply stores.

Maintenance and Cleaning

General: Regularly sweep or scrub (soft bristles only), or use a garden hose or high pressure cleaner. When using a high pressure cleaner, keep a safe distance and spray in the direction of the grain pattern.

Rust: Clean with water and soap, for heavy rust use lemon acid, then rinse with water.

Oil: Remove immediately with a degreasing agent. For heavy stains, use ultra fine sandpaper with light pressure, following the grain, then rinse.

Greasy stains: Clean promptly with soap or a degreasing agent. Sand if needed with ultra fine sandpaper using light pressure, following the grain, then rinse with warm water.

Wine or fruit stains: Clean with a suitable cleaner and water. For tough stains, use bleach, then rinse.

Smut or scratches: Lightly sand with ultra fine sandpaper using light pressure, following the grain, to remove.
