Specifications

Dimensions and details

  • Panel size (mm): H2700 x W605
  • Panel coverage: 1.63m² per panel
  • Thickness: approx. 1.5mm total
  • Stone layer: approx. 0.5mm
  • Backing: approx. 1.0mm GRP (glass fibre reinforced plastic)
  • Surface: raw-split, naturally textured, and sealed to help protect against dirt and moisture
  • Composition: genuine natural stone bonded to a flexible GRP backing
  • Weight: lightweight stone veneer, generally around 1 to 2kg per m² depending on the stone finish
  • Flexibility: flexible along the length, suitable for curves and columns with the correct handling and application method

Delaco Stone Panels feature a real natural stone surface, split from solid slate or quartzite and bonded to a flexible GRP backing. This creates a lightweight panel that keeps the raw texture and character of genuine stone while being easier to handle and install than traditional stone products.

Each sheet is unique in tone, texture, and natural markings. Because these panels use real stone, variation between sheets is a normal and desirable feature of the product, not a defect.

Key features

✅ Genuine natural stone surface

✅ Lightweight and easy to work with

✅ Flexible for selected curved applications

✅ Suitable for interior and exterior feature applications

✅ Suitable for wet areas when correctly sealed and maintained

✅ Low maintenance once installed and sealed

Stone Panels are designed for a wide range of applications including feature walls, fireplaces, ceilings, cabinetry, splashbacks, bathrooms, signage, caravans, boats, and decorative joinery. They are also formaldehyde-free and suitable for indoor use.

Technical information

  • Temperature resistance: approximately -50°C to +95°C
  • Thermal expansion at 90°C: approximately 0.5 to 0.8mm/m
  • Water absorption on the stone surface: approximately 1.9%
  • Abrasion resistance: average 0.9mm, maximum 1.0mm
  • Minimum curve diameter: approximately 36cm with correct heating technique applied to the back
  • Recommended bending direction: along the length only, not across the width

For added flexibility, the back of the panel can be heated with a heat gun during installation. Bending across the width is not recommended.

Installation Guide

Delaco Stone Panels are designed for a straightforward installation process and can be applied to a range of prepared substrates including tiles, brick, concrete, laminate, aluminium, glass, and painted plasterboard, provided the surface is clean, dry, stable, flat, and free from dust, grease, loose paint, or contaminants.

For best results, always inspect panels before installation and ensure the substrate is suitable for stone veneer application. Once the product has been unpacked, handled, or installed, it is considered accepted in its delivered condition.

What you will need

  • T-Rex Floor & Wall adhesive
  • 3mm notched trowel
  • Circular saw with diamond tipped blade
  • Sandpaper
  • Dry roller
  • Brush
  • Water-based sealer
  • Wiping cloth
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves
  • Face mask

These tools and materials are listed in the installation guide as the recommended setup for cutting, sealing, and fitting the panels correctly.

Sealing before or after installation

A water-based sealer should be used on all stone panels to help protect the surface from stains, moisture absorption, algae or moss growth, cracking, and chipping, while also enhancing the colour. Apply the sealer evenly using a brush or roller and allow the surface to dry between coats.

Recommended sealer application:

  • Indoor non-wet areas: 2 to 3 coats, reapplied every 4 to 5 years
  • Indoor wet areas: 5 to 6 coats, reapplied every 2 to 3 years
  • Outdoor areas: 5 to 6 coats, reapplied every 2 to 3 years

Installation steps

Step 1: Measure the area carefully and mark your boundaries before starting. Panels can be laid vertically or horizontally depending on the look you want to achieve.

Step 2: If cuts are required, place the panel stone side up and cut it to size using a circular saw with a diamond tipped blade. If needed, use very fine sandpaper to soften the newly cut edges.

Step 3: Apply adhesive to the back of the panel using a 3mm notched trowel. Spread it evenly across the full back of the sheet, leaving around 5mm along each edge to reduce excess squeeze-out. The guide recommends Soudal Floor & Wall adhesive, and notes that approximately 80% of a 4kg bucket may be used per panel.

Step 4: Position the panel on the wall using light pressure and adjust as needed until it sits correctly in place.

Step 5: Roll firmly across the full panel surface using a dry roller to remove any trapped air and ensure strong adhesion. This is a crucial part of the installation process.

Joining and finishing

Panels can be installed with a butt join for a more seamless appearance, or with a visible gap to create a shadow line between sheets. A minimal join line may still remain, which is normal. Aluminium trims can also be used for a neat architectural finish.

Grouting is not recommended unless the panels have been properly sealed first. Because the surface is porous, grout can stain the stone and may cause permanent discolouration or surface damage. If grout is used, it is entirely at the customer’s discretion.

Translucent-backed panels

For translucent stone products, use clear polyurethane or neutral-cure silicone adhesives and sealants to allow light to pass through as intended. Backlighting is commonly achieved using LED panels with a diffuser placed behind the stone. Delaco Panels supplies the stone only and does not supply the lighting system.

Important installation note

Delaco Panels supplies the product only and does not provide installation services. It is the customer’s responsibility to engage a qualified installer and ensure the installation complies with local building requirements and best practice. Delaco Panels is not liable for installation-related outcomes or for damage once panels have been unpacked, handled, or installed.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Stone Panels are low maintenance when properly sealed. In wet areas, reseal every 2 to 3 years. In dry internal areas, reseal every 4 to 5 years. The sealer helps protect the panel against stains, moisture, surface wear, algae or moss growth, and minor cracking or chipping over time.

For general care:

  • Keep the surface clean and dry where possible
  • Use appropriate water-based sealers only
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning methods
  • Clean any dust created during cutting or fabrication using appropriate PPE and safe work practices

For wet areas such as bathrooms and showers, the panels are suitable when sealed and maintained correctly. A surface coating is recommended where exposure to oil-based contaminants may occur.

Safety during cutting and fabrication

As supplied, the panels are non-hazardous solid sheets. During cutting or installation, dust or chips may be produced and may irritate the eyes, skin, nose, or respiratory tract. Wear safety glasses, gloves, long clothing, and a suitable face mask when fabricating or installing the panels. Provide good ventilation during works.

Warranty

Delaco Panels provides a 5-year limited warranty for Stone Panels for interior use only, from the date of purchase, provided the product has been installed and maintained in accordance with Delaco Panels guidelines.

This warranty covers the permanent bond between the natural stone layer and the GRP backing and guarantees that the stone surface will not detach, split, or wear away without mechanical influence.

Warranty exclusions

The warranty does not cover:

  • Improper installation or handling
  • Impact damage or mechanical force
  • Exposure to outdoor environments or ongoing moisture
  • Use of harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning methods
  • Natural variation in colour, texture, or surface markings

Claims

To submit a warranty claim, customers must provide:

  • Proof of purchase
  • Clear photos of the issue
  • A description of the problem

Approved claims may result in a replacement or partial refund at Delaco Panels’ discretion.
